February 5 Election (Tuesday) Primary Election
- U.S. Presidential Primary
- Special State Primary Election to fill the vacant 32nd Middlesex District State Representative seat (which covers Wards 1-7 in Melrose, and Precincts 3-6 in Wakefield). Voters will choose one Democrat and one Republican in this primary election:

- Last day to register to vote or to change party affiliation for the Feb. 5 election is Wednesday, Jan. 16. This is a partisan election and voters will need to choose the ballot for the party in which they are enrolled. Un-enrolled (Independents) may choose either ballot, and will go back to Un-enrolled (Independent) status after the election.
March 4 Election (Tuesday) Special State Election
- Choose between the Democrat and the Republican winner from the primary
- Elect the next state rep for the 32nd Middlesex District
- The last date to register to vote for the March 4 Special State Election is Wednesday, Feb. 13
Absentee ballot applications
- Voters must fill out an application before a ballot can be sent to them.
- Voters can either stop by the Melrose Elections Office in City Hall or call to have an application mailed to them.
