The Annual Meeting was held virtually on June 13, 2022. For a full report of the meeting, please see the Annual Meeting Minutes under POSTS.
The Steering Committee met in September and October 2022 and is working on promulgating information for voters in anticipation of the elections this year. We shared with Melrose High School a webinar about voting for high school students created by the Cape Cod League. It is hoped that the webinar, designed to engage and encourage young adults with voting, will be offered as extra credit or a basis for discussion in social studies and civics classes.
We are working to revive our Observer Corps volunteers to attend meetings of local government boards and committees and report to the membership. This has become a subject of interest in light of the recent School Committee revenue shortfall of 2.2 million that has generated so much local concern and interest. Susan Baron is coordinating this effort. There are volunteers to attend School Committee meetings in October, November and December at this time, but more volunteers are welcome to get involved by contacting Susan.
We sponsored a team in the Annual Candlelight Vigil and Walk for Melrose Alliance Against Violence, as always, and we were the second highest fund-raising team for this event. Thank you to all the members that donated and participated. As a funding organization of MAAV, we are proud to continue to support this very important and effective community resource.
Steering Committee meetings are being held virtually via Zoom at this time and all members are welcome to attend. A tentative schedule of annual activities and meetings has been set and is posted on our events calendar. These dates and events are subject to change as circumstances change, but we will provide prior notice of changes.
